One Person Office

McIntire Tax Center is a one person (AND 1 dog) office for 47 weeks of the year. For the other 5, I have a receptionist who answers the phone, schedules appointments, and greets clients. There is really no need for someone for much longer than that. While it would be nice to not worry about those jobs, the reality is once I get through the early rush I am playing someone to sit and play computer games. Late January and early February sees the clients who are in a hurry for their refund. They want in now. So this is when I see my highest volume. They also want it done while they wait and more will do a bank product. As the season progresses, the drop offs increase. If they do schedule an appointment, it is for a quick visit while I give them a basic overview of the return. We then sit down and go over the return when they pick it up. Strange as it seems, I actually spend less direct time with them than a RAL client. But these are the clients who you get to know and show an interest in the business. They also have the larger returns. But on a daily basis, there are fewer people in the door.
My goal is to go to where I need a receptionist for 6 then 7 weeks. This year I have to say goodbye to Dana and start multi-tasking again.
