Call For 2016-17 Season Proposals

The Winfield Community Theater is calling for play or musical show proposals for the 2016-17 season.  Presentations will be made at 6:00 pm on January 14, 2016 in the downstairs conference room in Meyer Hall on Baden Square.  The season will be finalized at the February 2016 board meeting.  Proposals should be in writing and include the following:

            Title and playwright

            Show synopsis

            Estimated budget (royalties, scripts, sets, costumes, etc.)

            Character breakdown

            Preferred time for production

            Theater resume if new to WCT

Please bring 10 copies of your proposal and a copy of the script if possible.  If unable to attend the meeting, or if you aren’t interested in directing, but have a favorite play you would like to see WCT produce, please contact the community theater at : [email protected] or call David Andreas at 620-221-1610.

Special Holiday Show

Winfield Community Theater is pleased to announce the upcoming production of “The Sunshine Boys” by Neil Simon.  This will be a “reader’s theater” reprisal of the original show produced at the Barn (Winfield Fairgrounds) in December 1980. Performances will be on December 5th and 6th at 7:30pm in Meeyer Hall on Baden Square.

“The Sunshine Boys” tells the story of two feuding, crotchety, former vaudeville performers who are persuaded to reunite for a television special.  The result is a flood of memories, miseries and laughs.

The cast way back when was as follows:

• Willie Clark - Wayne Chervey
• Ben Silverman - Carlyle Spohr
• Al  Lewis - George Lancaster
• Patient - Warren Andreas
• Eddie - Gregg Little
• Nurse - Mary McCullough (now Jarvis)
• Registered Nurse - Eleanor Richardson

 

As an homage to WCT’s long-time serving and seasoned actors, we have tried to involve as many cast members from before with the reprisal.  The cast now is:

•  Willie Clark – Wayne Cherveny
•  Ben Silverman – Tom Herlocker
•  Al Lewis – Warren Andreas
•  Patient – Ned Graham
•  Eddie – Gregg Little
•  Nurse – Mary Jarvis
•  Registered Nurse – Janet Calvin

There will also be these 2 cast members not mentioned in the original program:

•  Voice of TV Director – Arlan Anglemyer
•  Announcer – Larry Junker

 

Many of you will remember George Lancaster who died in 2008.  Carlyle Spohr, who when in Winfield was a pastor at the Presbyterian Church, now resides in Denver, CO and the travel distance precludes his participation.  Eleanor Richardson is unable to participate for health reasons.  Both have fond memories of the show and extend their greetings.

This is a Christmas gift from WCT to Winfield and surrounding areas.  There is no charge, but donations are greatly appreciated.  All monies received will be placed in the Lighthouse Fund established for purchase of a digital light board

Good-bye Worrall

It is with a sad heart that Winfield Community Theatre recognizes the passing of Worrall Clift. Worrall has long been a supporter of our theatre. He appeared in productions like the original Music Man and Everyone Loves Opal. Winning the Hambone award for Opal. He also served on the WCT board of directors in the 1970s. While not as active in recent years, Worrall was a dedicated supporter of the theatre through attendence at performances and joined us at the Hall of Fame induction a week before his passing.

Good-Bye Norman

It is with a sad heart that Winfield Community Theatre says good-bye to Norman Callison. He passed away August 5, 2009. Norman was highly active in Winfield theatre. He was a founding board member of WCT while teaching drama at Southwestern College. He also founded Horsefeathers and Applesauce Dinner Theatre. Norman was inducted into WCT's Hall of Fame as part of the 40th Anniversary Reunion. 

A memorial service has been set for Sunday, August 16th at 2:30pm. The curtain for the matinee for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum has been moved back to 4:30pm.

Lost Shows

The search is on for lost show information. WCT has been working to get our history on our web site and we have created pages for most of our shows. Of the 153 shows we have presented to date, only 23 have no page. That is because we have not be able to find a program or pictures for that show. There are other 19 shows for which we just have some pictures. We have posted a list of the missing shows here. If you have a program from one of these shows, please share a copy. You can mail to PO Box 347, Winfield, KS 67156, fax the copy to 620-442-6267 or email the info to [email protected]. If you have pictures, please consider sharing those also. Any original info will be returned to you. 

We are always looking for stories about the shows and the theatre. We have a memories form (bottom of the Memory Pages) you can fill out and we will add it to the Memories Pages.

Memories

Four pages of stories and memories have been added to the WCT web site. A special thanks to Warren Andreas for sharing. Each page has a form where anyone, cast, crew, audience member, can share a story that will be added to the web site. 

We are still looking for programs, photos and any other information about shows, the Barn, or WCT to add to are web archive. If you have something to share, please contact us at [email protected] or use the memories form. All original materials will be returned once they have been copied.

Congratulations Warren, Jane and George

Last week at the WCT annual meeting, a new tradition was un-veiled; The Lifetime Achievement Award. Winfield Community Theatre's Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes those who have given long service and dedication to our theatre. The initial recipients are Warren Andreas, Jane Lamb and George Lancaster. All three have been involved since WCT began. They have all participated not only as performers but also behind the scenes as directors, crew members and as board members. We would not have the thriving theatre we have today without their hard work. Thank you Warren, Jane and George for all your hard work and dedication.

Early shows

We have been working to put the early history of Winfield Community Theatre online. Thanks to the work of Warren Andreas, Ned Graham, JJ Banks, and many others much of the early histories have been put on CDs. From there, we are slowly creating show pages for the early shows. This will link to the show pages we already online. The best way to start is on the showpage . You will be to visit the specific show you would like. Or you can follow the links at the top and bottom of the pages and trace the shows from the start to today. Have fun!
