Looking for Next Season's Shows

The Winfield Community Theatre is calling for play or musical show proposals for the 2015-16 season.  Presentations will be made at 6 p.m. on January 8, 2015 in the downstairs conference room in Meyer Hall on Baden Square.

Proposals should be in writing and should include the following:

•   title and playwright
•   show synopsis
•   estimated budget (royalties, scripts, sets, costumes, etc.)    
•   character breakdown
•   preferred time for production
•   theater resume if new to WCT              

Please bring 10 copies of your proposal and a copy of the script if possible.  If unable to attend the meeting, or if you aren’t interested in directing, but have a favorite play you would like to see WCT produce, please contact the community theater at: [email protected] or call David Andreas at (620) 221-1610.
           

The season will be finalized at the February 2015 board meeting.

Fox on the Fairway Opens Soon!

            For those who play golf, or just like watching golf on TV, Winfield Community Theater’s next production “The Fox on the Fairway” is sure to provide an evening that is “above par”  (which is good in this case!). 

          Country Club president Henry Bingham (David Schmeidler) is so sure he will beat a rival club in a tournament that he makes a bet with that club’s head Dickie Bell (Arty Hicks).  He risks a huge amount of money and his wife Muriel’s (Paula Steinbacher) antique store.  But Dickie is on to Bingham’s stacked deck.  Bingham has to put his hopes in with Justin (Alex Payne), a young employee who has a great talent with his clubs as long as his state of mind is calm and not a shattered mess.  And as with an expensive vase that gets tossed about, it’s not about will it shatter, it’s about when and how.  Just as Justin is in winning mode, fiancé Louise (Caitlyn Godfrey) has a crisis, and that would be enough to make things crash and burn, but then there is the additional stress of the flirting going on between Muriel and Dickie, and Bingham and club member Pamela (Shelley Pinnegar).  And throughout, Bingham teaches Justin about the “religion of golf.”  This is a show with physical and farcical comedy where anything can happen, and seemingly does!

            Performance dates for this adult comedy are May 9, 10, 16 and 17, 2014.  Curtain is at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $9 and are available at the Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce in Winfield (620-221-2420), McIntire Income Tax Center in Arkansas City (620-442-6227), and online at www.winfieldcommtheatre.com.  The show is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., and sponsored by The Trust Company of Kansas and Winfield Convention and Tourism.

Fox on the Fairway Update

 Winfield Community Theater is pleased to announce cast selections for its upcoming show, “The Fox on the Fairway,”  written by Ken Ludwig and directed by David Andreas.  Join in the fun of a hilarious romp which pulls the rug out from underneath the stuffy denizens of a private country club.  Filled with mistaken identities, slamming doors and over-the-top romantic shenanigans, it’s a furiously-paced comedy that recalls the Marx Brothers classics.  A charmingly madcap adventure about love, life and man’s eternal love affair with...golf.   This play does contain adult situations and language.
 
            The cast includes Alex Payne as Justin Hicks, Caitlyn Godfrey as Louise Heindbedder, David Schmeidler as Henry Bingham, Arty Hicks as Richard “Dickie” Bell, Shelley Pinnegar as Pamela Peabody and Paula Steinbacher as Muriel Bingham.
 
            Performance dates are May 9, 10, 16 and 17, 2014 with curtain at 7:30 p.m.  Please note this a change from the originally scheduled dates due to a conflict with Holy Week/Easter activities.  Season ticket holders may call Julie, 620-221-1610, or send her an email at [email protected] confirming the new date they wish to attend.

Adam's Eve Auditions

The auditions for WCT's next show, Adam's Eve have been set. Larry Junker, the director of this play, will be having tryouts on December 3, 5 and 9 from 7 to 8pm at the WCT theatre in Meyer Hall. Rehearsals will begin January 2nd. Performances for Adam's Eve will be Febuary 14, 15, 21 and 22, 2014.

Cast for The Boys Next Door

Director Dan Simpson has announced his cast for the next WCT production; The Boys Next Door.

The Boys Next Door was written by Tom Griffin and looks at the lives of four mentally handicapped men living in a group home and their social worker. This production is dedicated to the memory of Sharon Bird.

Show dates are November 8, 9, 15 and 16, 2013 with curtain at 7:30pm each night.

Legacy and WCT

Friday March 29^th is a great day to make a donation to WCT’s. That is the Legacy Foundation’s Match Madness Day. Contributions to community organizations that have endowment funds through Legacy will be matching $0.50 for every dollar up to a total for the event of $10,000. So a $100 contribution to WCT could actually get us $150 dollars.

But there are some special rules. All donations must be dropped off at either the Winfield or Arkansas City Graves Drug Stores between 10 am and 6pm and they will be timed stamped. The matching funds will be allocated on a first come first served basis based on that time stamp.

Change in Performance Dates

Because of circumstances beyond our control, WCT has had to change the performance dates for Dead Men Don't Itch. The performances have been changed to April 19, 20, 26 and 27. The May dates have been cancelled.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause. Season ticket holders will be contacted about the date change and how to exchange tickets.

 

Auditions for Dead Men Don't Itch

Because of the weather, extra auditions for the final production of WCT's 2012-13 season have been added. Auditions will be tonight (Wed 2/27), Thursday Feb, 28 and Friday March 1 at 7pm in the WCT theatre in Meyer Hall on Baden Square. Saturday March 2nd audtions will be held in the theatre at 12 noon.

The performances will be Feb. 15, 16, 22, 23, 2013 in the WCT theatre in Meyer Hall. Curtain will be at 7:30pm.

Call for Proposals

WCT is looking for proposals for shows for our 2013-14 season.

If you have a show you would like to direct or see produced, you will need to put together a written proposal which includes show information (tittle, playwright, type of show, synopsis, character breakdown), the best time for production, and an estimate of the cost to produce. The estimate should take into consideration royalties, scripts, rentals, publicity, and an estimate of production costs (Set, costumes...).

Proposals will be submitted at the WCT board meeting on January 10 at 6pm. Please bring 10 copies of your proposal and a copy of the script if possible.
